We started the interview by asking, “Explain your background and your firms in detail.”

Sahar Famouri replied, “I am an industrial designer, a passionate enthusiast and entrepreneur in the fields of furniture and interior design. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to turn my passion into a successful career over the past 17 years. In 2020, I founded my own furniture brand, FID Paris.

Our business operates across three main areas: product design, which includes collaborations with other established furniture brands; interior design, catering to contract and private projects; and e-commerce, a new venture we are excited to be launching.”

Ambitions for the Future

UAE JOURNAL: What are your goals?

Sahar Famouri replied, “We are committed to establishing a reputation for creating long-lasting, high-quality products and services while expanding our business into other countries. Our on-going mission is to develop innovative concepts that have a positive impact on people’s lives.”

UAE JOURNAL: What do you feel is the biggest strength of “FID-PARIS” right now?

Sahar Famouri replied, “FID Paris is an avant-garde furniture brand. It is not just about product or furniture design; it’s about creating new experiences that redefine how products integrate into our interiors, ultimately enhancing our quality of life. Our goal is to transform the concept of furniture into a canvas for expressing individuality. With this philosophy in mind, we design unique collections centered on modularity and combinable solutions. Most importantly, these pieces can be personalized to reflect the client’s colour preferences, allowing for a truly bespoke experience.”

Journey of Growth

UAE JOURNAL: What was the path you took to get to where you are today?

Sahar Famouri replied, “That’s a great question! Beyond the passion that drives me, I don’t believe there’s a single, well-defined path to follow. My journey has been shaped by a variety of experiences and projects that naturally led me from being a designer and concept developer to crossing over to the entrepreneurial side. I eventually launched my own production, investment, and product development initiatives. The path was far from simple or easy—it felt more like a school where I learned valuable lessons from numerous failures while celebrating the small and larger successes along the way.”

Breaking Boundaries

UAE JOURNAL: Why did you start “FID-PARIS”?

Sahar Famouri replied, “I started FID-PARIS with the goal of breaking through traditional design disciplines, standards, and the economic and social boundaries imposed by major furniture manufacturers and distributors. I believed there was a real demand for the unique vision I wanted to bring to both private and commercial projects. I decided to bet on myself, investing in my ideas and dreams to create something truly different and innovative. FID-PARIS is the result of that ambition—a brand that challenges the status quo and offers a fresh perspective on furniture design. My vision for design was a bit ahead of its time in 2016, but being rewarded with the Red Dot Design Award opened up new possibilities, allowing me to launch complementary concepts year after year.”

Navigating Challenges

UAE JOURNAL: What have been the biggest challenges you’ve had to overcome during the journey of your leadership?

Sahar Famouri replied, “There were many times I questioned whether I should continue my journey as an entrepreneur. Various factors, such as limited human and financial resources, as well as time management, made the path difficult. I became a mother and an entrepreneur in the same year, and while I love being a mom, my primary concern has always been to fully embrace my responsibilities both as a parent and as a business owner. Balancing personal responsibilities with professional growth has been an on-going challenge. By nature, I am a perfectionist, and I’m still working on that—realizing that perfection doesn’t truly exist. I’m learning to be more flexible and less harsh on myself. The most important thing is to stay focused on the long-term goals, be patient, and understand that success doesn’t happen overnight.”

Additionally, we place a strong emphasis on the quality of fabrication, ensuring that every piece we create is crafted with precision and built to last. Then we asked, “What are the key values which helped you to overcome the challenges in your path? Tell us something about your memorable incident in your leadership?”

Sahar Famouri answered, “Strength and practicing gratitude have been essential, along with setting clear goals. It’s important to do your best in the present moment while staying focused on the desired outcome. Don’t waste time on things you can’t fix; instead, learn to move on. The life of an entrepreneur is never free from challenges. I believe the key is to find small moments of joy while working through difficulties and to genuinely celebrate even the small successes. Getting creative in problem-solving, and asking for help when you lack the time or the full knowledge, is also crucial.

As for a specific incident, I can’t pinpoint just one. My entrepreneurial journey has been filled with many memorable moments at different stages, from design to production, collaboration, and development.”

Envisioning the Future

UAE JOURNAL: How do you see the “FID-PARIS” changing in two years, and how do you see yourself creating that change?

Sahar Famouri replied, “In two years, I envision FID-PARIS evolving by further strengthening our long-lasting relationships with professional partners, suppliers, and buyers. A key focus will be scaling the brand internationally, expanding our presence in overseas markets. To keep the brand exciting and relevant, we will continue to introduce new products and collections that push the boundaries of design.

I see myself driving this change by staying open and engaged with enthusiastic professionals, including architects and distributors worldwide. By fostering these connections and exploring new opportunities, we can continue to innovate and grow while remaining true to our core values and vision.”
